St. Bartholomew Strives to Maintain a Safe Environment for All

Protecting our Students Does NOT Stop at our State of the Art Security System.

All employees and volunteers who have contact with students undergo thorough screening, including background checks through the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation & Identification (BCI&I). For complete information on screening policies, see the revised Policy for the Safety of Children in Matters of Sexual Abuse, section 1.2 (p. 3).

There are recent Virtus policy updates that all Church & Academy employees, volunteers, and coaches must review and comply with by January 31, 2017.

Please view the online video series “Child Protection Policy In-Service” found on the Diocesan website under Policy Videos:

Upon watching all three videos and reading both Diocesan policies, please fill out and sign the two acknowledgment forms (listed below) from the revised Policy and Standards.

The two acknowledgment forms must be returned to the parish or school to continue volunteering and to keep your Virtus account active. Please contact Mrs. Williams at 440-845-6660 ext. 11 if you have any questions.

Campus Safety & Security

At The Academy of St. Bartholomew, the safety and well-being of our students, faculty, staff, and visitors is a top priority. We are committed to providing a secure learning environment through comprehensive security measures, ongoing staff training, and strong partnerships with local emergency responders.

Our campus is equipped with multiple layers of security, including:

  • A secure main entrance with a buzzer entry system that allows visitors to be screened before entering the building.
  • Electronic access control with card scan systems that restrict entry to designated areas throughout the school.
  • Security cameras monitoring all building entrances, hallways, and stairwells to help maintain a safe campus environment.

In addition to these physical security measures, all faculty and staff receive regular training on school safety procedures. This training emphasizes situational awareness, recognizing potential safety concerns, and following established protocols if an individual is found in the building without proper identification or authorization.

The Academy of St. Bartholomew works closely with the Middleburg Heights Police Department and Middleburg Heights Fire Department to ensure our emergency preparedness meets and exceeds state expectations. These collaborative efforts include:

  • Annual campus-wide security vulnerability assessments.
  • Annual fire and health inspections.
  • Compliance with all State of Ohio required safety drills, including:
  • Fire Drills
  • Tornado Drills
  • Lockdown Drills
  • Rapid Dismissal Drills
  • A comprehensive Emergency Management Plan (EMP) that is filed with the State of Ohio and shared with local first responders.
  • An annual review and update of the Emergency Management Plan.
  • Annual emergency management testing to evaluate and strengthen our preparedness and response procedures.

Through proactive planning, continuous training, and close collaboration with local law enforcement and emergency services, The Academy of St. Bartholomew remains dedicated to providing a safe, secure, and nurturing environment where students can learn and thrive with confidence.
