The Academy of St. Bartholomew welcomes applications from students who are eligible for the Jon Peterson Special Needs Scholarship and the Autism Scholarship.

As part of the admissions process, our team carefully reviews each student's Evaluation Team Report (ETR) and Individualized Education Program (IEP). This collaborative review helps us determine whether the Academy of St. Bartholomew can provide the specialized instruction, accommodations, and related services necessary to support the student's success.

What is the jon peterson scholarship?

The Jon Peterson Special Needs Scholarship Program (JPSN) provides scholarships to students who are eligible from age three (3) through twenty-one (21) and have an Individualized Education Program (IEP) from their public school district. The award amount of each scholarship will be based on the primary disability condition identified in the student's Evaluation Team Report (ETR). Students must be enrolled in the scholarship program for the entire program year to receive the full scholarship amount.

Eligibility

A student who has been identified as a child with a disability and for whom the public school district has created an individualized education program (IEP) qualifies for the JPSN scholarship program. The Academy of St. Bartholomew works with the Berea City School District in both the identification and support of students with an IEP.

What is the autism scholarship?

The Autism Scholarship Program (ASP) gives the parents of children with autism who qualify for a scholarship the choice to send the child to a special education program other than the one operated by the school district of residence to receive their education and the services outlined in the child's Individualized Education Program (IEP) or Autism Education Plan (AEP).

Eligibility

Any student may qualify for the Autism Scholarship Program if they meet at least one of the following criteria:

1. A student who has been identified by their district as a child with autism and for whom the district has created an individualized education plan (IEP). The student must have a current IEP from the district of residence that is finalized and all parties, including the parent, must be in agreement with the IEP. OR
2. A student who receives a private diagnosis of autism and reflects this in their individualized education plan (IEP) or in an autism education plan (AEP) developed by the district of residence. 

A child is eligible to apply to participate in the program when the child turns three.

How do i access an application for the jpsn or asp scholarship?

Applications for the Jon Peterson Special Needs Scholarship and the Autism Scholarship are not available through the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (ODEW). Scholarship application materials will be provided by the Academy of St. Bartholomew after a student has been accepted for enrollment and eligibility has been verified.

To be considered for either scholarship, a student must have an identified disability and a current Evaluation Team Report (ETR) and Individualized Education Program (IEP). These documents are required to verify eligibility and to determine whether the Academy of St. Bartholomew can provide the services and supports necessary for the student's educational success.
