What is the Cleveland scholarship?

The Cleveland Scholarship program provides educational choices for children in kindergarten through twelfth grade who reside in the Cleveland Municipal School District. The program gives students the opportunity to attend private school. Even if your child already attends a private school, you may be eligible to apply for the program. The maximum amount of the scholarship for K-8 is currently $6166 and high school is $8408.


Eligibility

Students who currently reside in the Cleveland Municipal School District, and will be in grades K-12 for the next school year are eligible for this program. 

Cleveland Scholarship families who qualify for low-income status, (at or below 200 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines) and have a student in grades K-8, do not have to pay tuition that is not covered by the scholarship. The scholarship can only be used to pay tuition. Parents and/or guardians have to pay registration fees, material fees and other similar types of fees.


What is the Edchoice traditional & Expansion scholarship?

The Educational Choice Scholarship (EdChoice) Program provides students from designated public schools the opportunity to attend participating private schools. The program also provides students who are entering kindergarten through 12th grade scholarship opportunities based on different eligibility criteria. The scholarship amount is $6166 for grades K–8 and $8408 for grades 9-12.


Eligibility

The following students are eligible to apply for a Traditional EdChoice Scholarship: 

  • Those enrolled in and attending EdChoice public school buildings in their districts of residence;
  • Students enrolled in and attending community schools who would otherwise be assigned to EdChoice public school buildings;
  • Students enrolled in and attending public schools in their districts of residence who would be assigned to EdChoice public school buildings for the upcoming year;
  • Students enrolling in Ohio schools for the first time who would be assigned to EdChoice public school buildings; 
  • Students whose sibling received a traditional EdChoice Scholarship in the preceding year;
  • Students entering grades K-12 who would be assigned to EdChoice public school buildings regardless of where they attended school the previous year; 
  • Students who previously received an Autism or Jon Peterson Scholarship but no longer qualify because they no longer need special education services; 
  • Students who are foster children; 
  • Students who reside in a certified foster home; 
  • Students placed with a guardian, legal custodian or in kinship care;
  • Students who reside in the same household as a student who was placed with a guardian, legal custodian or in kinship care for at least 45 consecutive days;
  • Students who reside in the household of another for at least 45 days and but for not living there would have been homeless; or
  • Students who reside in a household with a student who would have been homeless (see previous criteria) for at least 45 consecutive days.


How Do I Apply?

  1. Once your child has been accepted by the Academy of Saint Bartholomew, you will complete and send in the CLEVELAND Scholarship Request Form or the EDCHOICE Expansion / EDCHOICE Traditional Scholarship Form along with your proof of current address and your child’s birth certificate. Please send these forms to the Academy of Saint Bartholomew Office.
  2. The Academy of Saint Bartholomew will then submit the CLE or EdChoice application for your child through the online secure application system, ONLY available to the school.
  3. Check the Federal Poverty Guidelines to determine if you meet the income requirements for your household size and you want your income verified to determine if you qualify for low-income status. Note: NEW  Families applying for an EdChoice or Cleveland Scholarship MUST have their income verified; it is NOT optional.
  4. Complete the Income Verification Form, gather all supporting income documents, and mail to the address listed on the form by the listed deadline. For more support, refer to the EdChoice & Cleveland Income Verification Helpful Tools form.

Looking to transfer scholarship from a different school?

After completing the ASB Admissions process and receiving an acceptance to our school, we will work with you to transfer an existing state scholarship to the Academy of St. Bartholomew.
